Dr. Screwloose

I am now officially a MAD SCIENTIST!!! I have completed my training, which included getting paid to make slime (the glow in the dark variety), silly putty, build and shoot a rocket, comets, burn things, play with dry ice... well you get the picture :-D. Today was the final day of training, and we had to finish creating our personas for mad science. Adam Maczik is not employed as a Mad Scientist... oh no... That is a job for... duh duh DUH!!! Dr. Screwloose... Hold on... I will get him for you... hes a pretty crazy guy.

HELLO!!!! My name is Doctor Screwloose. I am a MAAaaad Scientist *Crazy grin and spin around*. I know you are all excited about science if you are reading this, but are you excited about MaaaAAaaAAaaaD science? *Thunder Crash*. A little about myself... I like to moonlight as a regular old physicist who is getting his teaching degree but I will tell you a secret *whisper* its only an act for my MAAaaAAAAaad science . Now, I come from the artic tundra that is Michigan, and I do all my crazy experiments in my Ice Fortress in the U.P. If you ever see my arch nemisis, Prof. Too Uptight, you let me know... I will sick my robot chicken on him... well that is if he ever gets out of the shop. Every now and then, my best friend Arnold Swarzenegger will swing on by. He is a stickler for the rules, so you better behave. Well I gotta run... I have a beaker thats about to overflow, and I would hate to miss seeing that!

Thanks, Dr. Screwloose. Anyway, he's a really crazy guy. I hope the kids like him... the other Mad Scientists seemed to. Arnold did make an appearance and boy did he have the folk rolling on the floor. Well other than that, things are the same... fencing LOTS, writing papers LOTS, working LOTS, sleeping...some. I am excited about the game this weekend and I look forward to meeting up with a bunch of Michigan Alum at the Thirsty Lion, the bar that we all hang out at (I guess). I do have to say that I miss hanging out with all of you, and every now and then I get lonely for my Michigan friends. But I am glad to hear that alot of you are doing well. Okay... time to make dinner, and go check on the doc... make sure he isn't getting into too much trouble. Adios!

From the depths of insanity.

Wow... you have heard of burning the candle at both ends? Well I have a new one... throw the candle into a raging fire. These last two days have been CRAZY.... I have been working 8 hours at Target, 4 hours at Mad Science, fencing and trying to get HW done... there just aren't enough hours in the day! My sleep-o-meter is red lining... but all I have to do is get through the next 16 hours or so and I will be golden. Focus Maczik.

I really can't complain though... I have begun to really start looking at life and I like what I see in mine... Right now its tough, but I am doing what I have to now, so that I can do what I want to later. All in all, life is fairly kickin :). Hope all is well with whomever is reading this post... drop your name in as a comment if you do, so I know whos readin.

Peace out.

Mahna Mahna...

Leon Auriol Trophy

This is the trophy that places 1-4 earn at the Leon Auriol Open... Our very own Leon Auriol Bobble Head Dolls! :-D

This picture does Seattle no justice!

Of Seattle and the Leon Auriol Open

First things first... I am really beginning to like Portland... it is a GREAT city. But man does Seattle have a skyline. I had the opportunity to drive into Seattle after dark and let me tell you... breathtaking. It was amazing. If Portland had a skyline like that, I might never leave. That and I also left Seattle just as the sun was setting over city. AMAZING.

Anyway, friday night was good times. Went out to eat with Laura at a snazy little italian place called Lombardi's (or something close to that spelling). Tasty. 'Nuff said. I taught Laura the basics of fencing, as it was the least I could do for her giving up floor space for me to crash on! She beat me 5-4... I hang my head in shame.

Saturday was the Leon Auriol Open, basically the one of the biggest and best tournaments in the Northwest all season. A bunch of the Northwest Fencing Center folks showed up. I love my club... they have taken me in as family. There were a total of 68 entries for mixed epee... something like 14 A's, 15 B's... basically it was an A4 event (for those not of the fencing type, an A4 event is the highest rating an event can get). I was on fire in my pool. I crushed everyone, went 6-0 and had a +20 indicator, which seeded me 3rd for the direct elimiation bracket. I beat some very good fencers to finish 2nd. It would have been nice to win the whole shebang, but I am not quite ready yet to fence on that level. I am stubborn and when it comes down to it, I have a very strong core when it comes to pressure situations, but I need more time to develop my skills to truly be winning a tournament like this, instead of getting a good draw and fencing out of my mind. But it was a great experience and I fenced VERY well... Michael got to see alot of what I can do, and alot more of what he can fix and adjust to make me a great fencer.

Well, thats it for this post... the drive back was a killer, especially cuz I got absolutely tattooed (sp?) on my right shin in my second to last bout. It hurt like a mother on the way home, and now that I am in shorts, I can definatly see that it has swelled pretty bad... nothing serious, but man did the drive suck.

Thanks for reading, and keep commenting! I like to know how people are doing, and when they are going to come visit from A2 or beyond.

God, I would give my physics degree to the first person who offered (and actually gave me) a back massage...

The Northwest Fencing Center... the Taj Mahal of fencing clubs.

ME! In Oregon!!!

Keepin it real

So umm... ya... I started this blog to keep everyone who cares informed about my adventures in Oregon as I pursue my Olympic dreams. This is going to be a short post because I should really be writing a paper right now instead of working on this :P. But because I know you all love to read about me, I will post my recent updates from my AIM profile. Catch y'all later... time to write that paper.

Adam Update (Week of 9/17): I am exhausted... I really need to stop doing these "I only can take an hour nap somewhere in the next two and half days" things. But between working overnight, and having to train during the day, I really don't get much time for sleep. Add the fact that I HAVE to write a paper a day for teacher certification and, well you get the point. But if life was going to throw this type of load on anybody, I'm one of the few that can pull it off. And most of the time I am laughing in life's face saying "bring it on biaatch!" But I am crazy like that, and wow do I love a challange. Anyway, this week was my first real week of lessons with Coach Marx, and I feel like I am a freshman who walked into a Phd class. But already I can see improvement, and I absolutely love working out with the guys at the club. The club itself has become my home, and I can't imagine any other place I would rather be. It is a really big honor for me to be a part of this club as it continues to climb its way into the being THE fencing club in the US. I took my Praxis IIs on the 16th. I feel confident on one, but I am gonna be sweating a little when its time to get the score for the second... stupid introductory physics that I haven't done in 5 years. Other than that, I am still waiting on hearing back from better jobs than Target, and thats getting a little frustrating. I also basically called everyone I have listed on my cell phone after the Michigan Vs. Notre Dame game as I was literally bouncing off the walls... the people at the club though I was crazy. Thats all for now... thanks to everyone who has been emailing me, or facebooking me. I have a wall now, so help me fill it up! Catch y'all later...

Adam Update (Week of 9/10): Working my butt off in Oregon. My fencing training is kicking into high gear. I am taking lessons three days a week and have practice four days a week. I am probably going to start going in on Saturdays too... mmmm fencing six days a week. Yummy Other that that, I work over nights, and I work on homework on my never ending quest to be a teacher. I was just hired to be a Mad Scientist, which means that I am going to get to start doing after school science demonstrations for elemntary school students. On rare occasions I actually have fun. I go to the bar with the fencing crowd, well those over 21, on thursday nights. The waitress knows us by name, and hers is Debbie. Can't beat a 1.95 burger and a 2.50 beer. I went to Seattle last week, and that was awesome... haven't had that much fun since I moved from A2. Looking forward to going back the weekend of the 23rd for the biggest fencing tournament of the season in the Northwest and hopefully more chilling. Well thats life... I'll catch y'all on the flip side.

By the way, no one around here understands what college football is all about.

Peace.
